Therapy Services
Building Bridges provides comprehensive home programs for young children on the autism spectrum. We help children achieve their potential using strategies and techniques from Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). Instruction focuses on teaching Core Learning Skills, Verbal Behavior, and social/play skills in natural and structured learning environments. We believe that through skill development, inclusion, and family support all children will succeed!
Individualized Instruction: Every child is unique, and as a result every child has individual educational needs. At Building Bridges each child is assessed continually to determine which specific interventions are needed. Each child has strengths and weaknesses in different areas of development and we strive to address all of these. Communication, cognitive skills, academics, social skills, play skills, self-help and fine and gross motor skills are assessed and targeted when improvement is needed. Progress is carefully monitored and documented to keep instruction moving in the right direction and at the proper pace. Our goal is to nurture happy, social, eager learners.
Home Programs: Children entering ABA programs are often quite young. The most comfortable and appropriate setting for a young child's treatment is in the home. Working in a familiar place in close proximity to family members is important. The number of treatment hours required for an effective ABA program also makes the home the most practical setting. Therapists work one-on-one with your child in intensive two-hour sessions. Several sessions per day are recommended for optimum progress. Therapists are trained to run programs designed for your child based on your child's needs. Sessions are educational and fun. Most children enjoy therapy and form close bonds with their therapists.
Parent Training: Parental involvement in the treatment process is very important. Parent training sessions in which one or both parents and the child work together with the consultant or a parent trainer are quite effective. Parents who learn the specific techniques used by the therapists can apply elements of treatments to daily interactions with their child. Most parents agree that parent training improves the quality of parent-child interactions and encourages generalization of newly acquired skills to family settings.
