Groups Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is this program appropriate for my child?
A: Bridges has groups for children ages 2-8 years old who have social skills deficits. Many also have diagnoses of autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit disorder, communication disorder, or learning disabilities.
Q: What will my child learn by being a member of a club at Bridges?
A: Goals are determined for each child and each group. Children learn skills necessary for developing quality relationships with peers such as how to initiate and maintain play interactions, use and understand nonverbal communication, engage in topical conversations, and make decisions with others. Cooperation, flexibility, and creativity are emphasized.
Q: How are goals developed for my child?
A: The behavior analyst conducts a formal interview with you and your child during the intake process. Goals are suggested by the behavior analyst and approved by the parents. Parent input regarding goals is encouraged. Goals are revised as necessary.
Q: What will my child be doing during the sessions?
A: Skills are taught through cooperative games, role-play, video modeling, language activities, and structured play interactions. A lesson plan for each session is shared with parents at the end of each session.
Q: Who will be leading the group?
A: Both the group leader and assistant have extensive training in applied behavior analysis and experience with children with a variety of special needs. Groups are supervised by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst.
